You may have heard some buzz about mirrorless cameras for the past couple years. What are they? Are they better than DSLR? How do they work?
To answer that we need to start with the basics of camera operation. A camera lens consumes the light rays around it , and then uses glass to redirect them to a single point, then recorded on the sensor (or historically on film).
A digital camera uses internal mirrors to capture and reflect the image into the viewfinder , while mirrorless cameras capture images without the use of a mirror.
One advantage to a mirrorless camera is that it can can shoot almost silently, which ideal for weddings and wildlife.
Mirrorless cameras are also lighter than a traditional DSLR , and they are more compact, which makes toting them around far easier. For example, my mirrorless fits in most of my handbags.
If you’re in the market for a new camera, I would recommend a mirrorless. I’ve had mine since January of 2021, and have enjoyed it immensely. I find that it works well for everything that I need to capture the continuous changes and stages in our family life, and at the end of the day, that’s what I’m concerned about, capturing the moments that truly matter.
